Images missing alt text
WCAG 1.1.1
Every image needs a text alternative ("alt text"). Screen readers read it aloud, and it shows if the image fails to load.
- Informative images (products, photos with meaning, charts): describe what matters in a short phrase, for example "Blue linen shirt, front view".
- Images that are links or buttons (logos, icons): describe where the link goes or what the button does, for example "Home" or "Search".
- Decorative images (dividers, background flourishes): mark them as decorative so screen readers skip them.
Skip "image of" or "picture of". Screen readers already announce that it's an image.
